The Jeff Bove Project started in 2011 in the living room of Jeff’s house when Scott Birney introduced Jeff to violinist, David Poland. The project quickly moved into the studio. Jeff then added pianist, Lindsay Lee, with whom he had worked in the mid-90’s on the Briggs Project. Jeff also invited Tom Alderson to join. Tommy had worked with Jeff for years in Briggs. Kat Lee, Lindsay’s daughter, was invited to sing the record, which Scott and Jeff wrote. And Dave Lee came in last to add drums and percussion. “High Definition” was finished and released in 2012.

Jeff solicited Albert Birney to create the “High Definition” video which quickly gained over 71,000 views.
Jeff decided to write more material and this led to “Fires Across The Canyon”. Originally, “Fires” had 16 songs but it was decided to finish 14. Jeff, Lindsay, Tommy, Davey, Kat and Dave performed on this record with Kat carrying the vocals. Randy Coleman visited from Nashville and added some bass tracks.

Fires Across the Canyon

“Fires” featured not only the moving title song, a tribute to 9/11, but also a blues tune, “Gotta Get Back To You,” pop songs, “Nothin Comes Easy” and “Indian Summer” and two wonderful ballads, “No Time To Say Goodbye” and “Demon Poison”. “I Don’t Know Why” is a mystical piece where Kat’s voice transcends and Davey’s violin solos enter another world. “Fires” also includes great re-makes of Jeff’s “You Scheme”, “Take To Me Baby”, “Will Love Find A Way” and “Twisted Fortune”. “Foggy” is a hazy song about the San Francisco Bay, and “Tumbleweed” and “Love Looked Me In The Eye” close out the record on a lighter note.

“Fires” was recorded in Chadds Ford by Jeff, mixed by Jeff and Dave Lee with help from Lindsay, produced by Jeff, with help by Lindsay, and mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Fab Dupont, at Flux Studios, Fab’s studio in NYC. Danny Lee was commissioned to do an oil painting for the cover. Although the record was completed in 2014, Jeff decided to withhold release until 2016, after he completed tracking his next record.

Immediately upon finishing “Fires”, Jeff wrote another 24 songs and started recording them in 2014-2015. Since this was a vocal heavy project, Kat Lee was joined by the incredible talent of Dan White, and Alicia Maxwell along with Lindsay. In addition to stellar lead work by Tommy and Davey, Lindsay Lee also added synth and piano solos. Jeff handled rhythm guitar and some virtual instruments and Dave Lee played drums. Jeff also invited Janet Witman (“Brandywine Harps”) to play on 4 tracks with her Celtic harp. In addition, Jeff brought in Andrew Bedell on sax, and Blayne Salerni on trumpet. These instruments added great textures to the sound. In all, eleven musicians played on the record.

It took two years to complete the tracking on the 2015 Project, and hundreds of hours to arrange and mix it. It is now being mastered by Fab Dupont at Flux. Fab says it is his first 24 song record and first project with a song about a vegetable.
The double CD project is called “Still Resting From High School” and has a release date of December 1, 2016. More about the songs of “High School” later.

After completing “High School”,the band immediately started work on its fifth record, “Playing With House Money”.This 17 song record was completed in two years. The record features lead vocals by Dan White and Alicia Maxwell, and classic fiddle solos by Davey Poland. Sadly, this was to be Davey’s last work with the Jeff Bove Project. His solos will fill our hearts and souls with his good natured New England personality forever. Davey’s fiddle playing helped shape the sound of the Jeff Bove Project.

In 2018, the band started tracking its next record, Shadow of Love.

The Jeff Bove Project continues using each record as a building block for the next.
